>>882941>match what the fish are actually feeding onThis is another one of those things where common sense and fishing knowledge tells you one thing but experience can teach you to do something totally fucking different.
The lake I was just at, right around sunset almost every day you will see the smaller fish leave their super shallow grass hiding spot and go just outside the weeds in maybe 3'-4' of water and start picking bugs off the top. If you want, you will see areas where the baitfish are getting chased by bass near the surface of the water.
Common sense says the best lure would be something like an Original Rapala or popper in a natural silver baitfish color and run it around to replicate an injured baitfish and an easy target for the feeding bass to grab.
It doesn't work at that spot. Instead, I will toss out a lizard or worm Texas rigged and work it along the bottom. Sure enough, when I get close to the baitfish getting chased around, a bass will grab it right way. I have no fucking clue why it works that way but I have been doing it like that for the past 6mos and the baits replicating baitfish never get hit in that situation but the Texas rigged soft baits get taken immediately.
