I've had my German Army boots for 9 years now (since conscription) and they've served me well so far (granted, I don't wear them daily), the leather in the toebox and behind the heels is falling apart now though. Downside might be the high weight for some (the pair weighs 2.3kg at size EU48), I personally never had an issue with that though

Aren't those the new German army boots and lighter than the ones before? I still got mine (previous model) from when I was conscripted in 2006, and they weigh 2.35kg (5.2 murripounds) combined. Never had an issue with that though or felt I was carrying a heavy load, so I don't get all the fuss about light weight obsession and "x kg on your feet equals 10x kg on your back!!!"
