One other spot you might try if you head to Chatfield and need something to do during the day before the walleye fishing starts is hit up the little pond on the south side for carp. It was my favorite carp spot when I used to live in the area. During the high water in spring, the northern edge floods and carp enter it from the main lake to spawn, then they get stuck there after the water drops again. I fished that slip sinker rig I mentioned earlier with canned corn and pretty much always caught a few. I normally walked up the west side to the little point sticking up and had one rod casted north over the shallower water and one rod to the east a bit deeper. Move if you don't get any bites in an hour or so. Chumming (throw out a handful of corn where you are fishing) does help a lot for carp and I used to do it when I fished there, but it is illegal so keep that in mind. I only ever fished it for carp, but I don't see why a few bass or whatever wouldn't wander in there so it might be worth chucking a lure if you get bored.
No idea if that spot is still good since I moved into the mountains around 2014 and haven't fished it since, but it's probably worth a shot.
