Another thing, if you DIY stuff. Cameras like mirrorless, SLR, and DSLR can exchange lenses right, so you can also make your own lenses for them to use. These can be simple or super complex. They can have 1 lens element or as many as you want. You can go for special effects or just high quality IQ. While you can grind out your own lens elements from glass, you can simply harvest lens elements from other things (like broken camera lenses for $5 on ebay) or buy them online. You won't be able to have the range of DIY capability if you get a point-and-shoot camera. Personally, I've made over a dozen DIY lenses. My photography is almost exclusively outdoor innawoods stuff using DIY lenses for their special effects. Though, all I have is a D3400 which is not at all weather proof or cold proof. My next camera body purchase will more than likely be a Pentax with good weather proofing so I don't have to worry about the rainbag leaking and ruining a $400 camera.
