I grew up in rural New England and around 11-12 years old we started to sneak out at night without our parents knowing. I lived in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere so all we were doing was sneaking around the property at night but we didn't initially venture far from home.
The first time me and my brother went far from the house in the middle of the night we went through the woods on a full moon autumn night. We walked for about an hour through the woods and it was scary as fuck, we didn't bring flashlight or anything. We popped-out of the woods at the end of my street about 2 miles from home. We were so tired that we decided to just walk on the road to get home as it would be way faster than winding all the way through the woods and probably only take us 30mins or some shit.
Dark fucking road through the woods, almost no driveways along the way and barely any streetlights. As we started walking toward home I looked back to the end of the road behind us, the intersection having a single streetlight. In front of the distant yellow glow of the sodium lamp we watched as the silhouette of a coyote crossed the road. Then another, and another, and slowly an entire pack of coyotes silently filtered out of the forest into the street behind us, disappearing in the darkness. That was a long mothafucking walk home.
Proud to say pic related, a few years ago I was drunk in the woods with my friends and we walked the same walk and I took a pic of the very same streetlight, this time no coyotes.
