I'm seriously considering giving up on applying dye and wax - it kinda looks cool in this natural, raw way. Shiny. Even the darker spot where the pipe got too hot adds a bit of character to it.
But the biggest reason why I have second thoughts about painting it is because I heard that putting wax or dye on a pipe could stop it from "breathing". Apparently it's better when the smoke can go through natural canals in the wood, somehow it's supposed to enhance the flavour. Have you guys heard about this? Is it a myth?
