>>2759731Because those tell you much more about geology than a really nice mineral specimen. Brecciated rocks indicate there’s a fault somewhere nearby, conglomerates show that the alluvial fan you’re on has been there for a LONG time, etc. I prefer structural and big picture stuff anyways. I don’t care about fossils much either, at least compared to some folks I went to school with who get off on that shit. I get my rocks off on big mountains and fault, etc. probably stemming from my climbing fetish. I’d rather admire a clean cut corner or overturned bed with a sick jug haul on it than a tiny piece of perfect calcite surrounded by a limestone matrix. Finding a little ammonite fossil is always cool though.
>>2759811Stromatolites are everywhere in Vegas. Big bacterial mats were pretty widespread back in the day. They’re still around now, too. Apex is great for fossil hunting.
>>2759815You’re right on the money brotha. Cream of the crop!!!! Give me some fucked up shit and let me piece the puzzle together. Perfect cut crystals are for white girls.
Pic: stromatolite, crinoids, ammonite, sponge, bone. Full desert set. Drilling gets so boring bros…it’s just gravel all the way down.
