Zippo lighters can run on gasoline, meaning they pair well with motorcycles.
Just dip it in the tank.
You might want to take an extra clutch cable and/or throttle cable. They're light and easy to tuck under the seat. Just in case one snaps.
Oh yeah, and put all the GS500 manuals on your phone. A bunch of diagrams and PDFs on hand are useful.

There's not a ton that can really go wrong with a GS500.
I'm going to assume you've heard of the GStwins website/forum.
Their search function sucks, so what you want to do is use google or duckduckgo and type
"site:
gstwins.com (question/keywords go here)"
This forces google or whatever engine to search those words specifically on that domain.
It helps a lot.
Fun fact, Japan didn't get the GS500, they got the GS400 (same bike, smaller bore). It's the bike model used in KumaMiko
