>>1788966The girth hitch is used for other reasons, used to secure an object and pull with *both* ends of the line, clove hitch is more secure if you're pulling with one end. The prusik is a pretty niche knot, it's designed to slide along what it's tied to (in this case another line) and cinch when the working ends are pulled parallel to the stationary line. I prefer the klemheist as it locks and unlocks much better but it's unidirectional so they aren't interchangeable in all cases.
