I keep picrel on my pack normally. Most of the terrain on my hikes is either easy to spot through the trees or at my feet.
I have all the maps for where I hike (laminate lads) and I usually have a Garmin with me for emergencies... although the only time I ever use it is when I'm ocean fishing and fog rolls in.
