>>2048502God bless, fren.
I think that it will most certainly pay off - honesly, I'd get chickens just for the animal itself; the eggs are a self-sufficiency bonus.
It's very fulfilling to raise an animal from a baby to a productive adult - chickens especially so, I would think.
I'll probably try to construct a coop by next week, and I'll post a thread then.
Hope you end up going through with your setup!
But if you want some advice, (I don't know shit about chickens, but I do know my plants), try building a potato tower - it's easy, and a single one can make up to 50lbs of potatoes, and it'll give you an idea of what the regular maintenance is going to be like (animals are tougher, of course, but plants give a good idea of what the routine is like.)
>>2048517Yep, fortunately I'm on the 6th floor.
I'm also a carpenter - everything will be built as an enclosure.
I'm not going to just dump a few chickens on my balcony and call it a day.
I'm going to anchor some wooden posts in every corner of the "coop/run". Back quarter of the "room" will be the coop (about 8 sq ft), front will be the run (~25 sq ft).
Pic related.
