IDK, much like a lot of people I don't have cash for stuff to have just to sit around looking pretty. I get stuff to use it and you are correct past a certain point there isn't any real appreciable difference in quality, maybe I'd feel differently if I could afford to wipe my butt with money but generally I'm going to get the best that I can afford because sometimes being cheap is more expensive.
ATM the priciest knife I'd consider spending money on would be a belt knife made by William Collins, not because I need it, but because I want it. The camp knife I have is perfectly capable but when I look at that belt knife it just ticks all the boxes for me, thin where I want it thin, thick where I want it thick and a handle that looks comfortable to use. It may not be that appealing to somebody else but it's the one I want.
