You ask normal people and they will put money as the biggest blockade against children. Mental illness is rife despite tv, games, internet, movies, etc which should technically provide an enormous amount of escapism or distractions, but instead it consumes people.
Somehow the Amish can handle working pre industrial methods pretty easily in a space age world and make enough money from it too support a large family while keeping their mental health solid despite the lack of distractions or escapism from their work and duties. Compare that to wagies who make more than an Amish family and even live on their own yet still seem financially and mentally in ruin despite every modern convenience.
