Amending with compost and cover cropping is pretty common practice. I do it and imagine most others here do it as well. Building good soil is a goal we all share. In hot and humid conditions, fungal spores grow extremely fast and spread through the air. I'm not sure how more microbial life stops that. That said, I certainly hope it does so I can stop rotating crops.
Its unclear to me how all this ties back in to Big Beef tomatoes being a bad variety that should never be recommended.
Also, id be interested to know how your theory of plant health completely stemming from fungi/bacteria factors in hydroponics. Some of the most beautiful and productive tomatoes I've grown came from nothing but water and a handful of micronutrients.
