>>1642583>I wouldn't want to fuck it up.I made it so I'm kind of allowed to fuck it up :)
It started off with some heavy 5mm stock and I did intend it to be a butcher knife, but even though I put a compound grind (shallow hollow grind) down the first 3/4's and left the front tip reinforced its still quite a very large, weighty knife with the bolsters and all. Well balanced still at the front bolsters but basically as an 'experiment' I wasn't real confident I could move something like that sales wise and just dickered around in my spare time while making lighter knives. So I just kept it as a fuck-around knife and bit of a demonstrator.
Where it really shines is breaking up big animals, it'll still be shaving sharp after taking apart a big steer or red deer carcasses and I haven't done much more than a quick couple runs down the sides with a very fine, pocket diamond grit since I made it over a year ago. At 13%chromium, 0.9% tungsten and 2.2% carbon its basically just a crazy amount of carbides that keep on cutting, maybe not the best choice though for chopping through heavy bone, it gets through the lighter ones well though. There's 3 x 2hrs of tempering to get it down to about 60HRC
The grain pattern from the carbide formations is probably the coolest part though
