>>825745I haven't tried a bunch of stuff, but I'm down with my $30 Princeton Tec headlamp. Has red and white light, and high and low for each. Uses 3x AAA batteries and they last a long ass time. So if you see one of these you like, no complaints.
If you need a bright spotlight though, you may want a bigger handheld. The headlamp is bright enough to see anything nearby, but not the best if you need to see the shoreline across the lake.
