No boot, no matter how well constructed will stop your ankle from snapping if the right conditions are met (rough, uneven terrain as you put it). That and a stick that essentially acts as a third leg gives you more stability and support than a pair of $200 boots ever will, lightweight or otherwise.
Let that sink in. A major selling point for boots is support, something you can gain within five minutes of getting to your trail, at zero cost to you, does support better than boots ever have a chance of doing. A fucking stick my friend.
