>>2235274Find what people fish for in your area. I don't know where you are but if you're anywhere in the US there will be bass and panfish in every stream and pond you can find. There's nothing wrong with using live bait when you're learning, that's how everyone starts out. Once you get confident with a hook and bobber move on to different rigs like a drop shot or carolina rig, then onto soft plastics etc etc.
I don't know a lot about salt but if you're near a coastal city there's probably a bait shop that will give you advice better than anything you read here because they know about that specific area
