You can get all kinds of info on tarps, pitches, site selection, knots, etc. I was thinking of recommending the borah gear silpoly 7x9 tarp, but you would have to seam seal it yourself. The tarp in this pic is a 7x9 dcf tarp from zpacks. It's not cheap, but good to go right out of the box. If you just want to get your feet wet any tarp will do. Just make sure it's factory seam sealed or taped if you don't feel like messing with any of that.
