>>2688701yeah, the padded case seemed cheap and light enough considering its usefulness. the cook kit itself was a christmas gift and i supplemented it with various accessories. i've since removed the smaller pot and the multi-disc as i prepare to take it on its first real outing. i see the wisdom of using gel, but picrel burns quite hot and clean, and it only costs $20/gallon at any hardware store
food-wise, i'm not entirely sure exactly what i'd like to do. having a real cook kit opens up a lot of options. i'm very partial to the idea of pre-cooking really slow stuff sous-vide like beef stew, that unlike steak, won't get ruined if i toss it in boiling water to heat it up. other sous-vide options would be herbed asparagus, carrots, mini potatoes, boneless pulled pork. given my intent to do more of this kind of food, i may use a mini butane torch so i can blast shit in the fry pan. and maybe use the fry pan to make basic sauces out of the sous-vide bag juice, a bullion cube, and some prepared packs of minced vegetables. dunno, lots of options, including of course frying up a sausage
for me, it's all about being able to cook various real foods with as little prep and mess as possible, without eating goyslop like dehydrated "hiker meals." actually gonna order a vacuum sealer today, seems dead useful for lots of stuff
