>>1828519It isn’t the heat that does it in - in fact, compared to the south in the summertime its a lot cooler. The problem is there’s so much moisture in the air that it chokes the air, so that it gets all sticky. Its a little of a tradeoff, but I’ve found it to be worth it every time.
If rowing’s still your thing then you’d be right at home in the island’s many bays. There’s a lot of resistance if you get into the channel or are rowing into the south side, but I reckon you’d be able to travel all the way from cruz bay to north haulover easily with a little effort. I’m not too certain on that, but I managed the stretch from francis to cinnamon without worry of being swept away.
I’m not a birder, but I’ve seen a whole host over the years. The salt ponds are littered with fiddler crabs and their ilk, so they are attractive resting points for those migrating between the hemispheres. Before the lockdowns began there were flamingo sightings at one of them, though their presence was unexpected. I saw pic related a few days ago - they’re endemic to the area, but I never caught a glimpse before then.
