There is a world of awesome bourbon out there, so I can't pick a "best ever" bourbon.
For me, my go to is Larceny. It's not the worlds great bourbon ever, but it's about $25 a bottle or less, and it tastes like it should cost more than twice that. Absolutely fantastic for the price.
If I'm backpacking, I've kind of got myself enjoying the newer flavored bourbon and whiskey. I'm not sure why. The new Jim beam vanilla is so sweet that it tastes like ice cream, but it kind of hits the spot for me. It's almost like a cocktail in a flask. Granted, it's not for the serious bourbon enthusiast, since it's not really bourbon at all, but it's just a nice sweet treat at the end of a long hike.
