I mean really fucking hard to find even when you know what you are looking for. You don't even need to find copper it can be iron ore because I know how to make steel from raw iron ore. If you have the metal or of any kind, everything else is easy as cake. Just make some charcoal and start smelting then refining the ore.
The first metal tool you need to make is a spike/punch on a stone anvil. Not a knife. You use this tool to make you next tool, a metal hammer (a wood hammer and wood "tongs" will pass up until this point), then you make tongs and then a knife and you are off to the races from there. Better tools, better metals from there.
