I was anxious as hell, super skinny, never saw a cow up close or driven a manual car before. Guy was like "come up to the house at x time tomorrow" and we just drank coffee with his wife and awkwardly chatted for a bit, then he took me down to the dairy because it was bang on milking time. He stepped me through what to do but I was still hopeless and not dressed for it and got projectile shat all over. But I stuck it out and he asked me to come back the next morning.
I started on $25 an hour from start to finish as an unskilled farmhand (australia) but it might vary in the states. It's up to $28 now a couple years later and I charge $30 for other jobs on neighboring farms
