Good that you want short as it takes time to get use to using thse powerful and dangerous tools (fun as hell though). I started off using a "turkey cutter" 8" stihl mostly useful for delimbing and felling small trees and eventually worked my way up to a 18" stihl for large trees such as Eucalyptus. Felling trees, bucking rounds have never been more fun. Any trees I find in a trail under a foot diameter I usually use a double bit, feel like a badass.
About the 2 stroke I wouldn't know, since when I use saw I usually use all the gas. But I do know that if you decide to not use the saw for a while to empty out the gas and oil from the reservoirs.
