>>2200817Yes, because you can theorize about something for forever and think it might be fun, but actually doing it is completely different. There's really no substitute for experiencing something first hand. I took lessons for a couple reasons, that being one of them. Nothing like trying to sail on a lake, with light and very quickly shifting winds, and shitty powerboaters all around you, to experience some of the downsides to sailing and see if you're willing to put up with that. I enjoyed it despite all that and joined the sailing club, since that's going to be cheaper than buying my own boat and a place to put it, and the guys running the club have been both incredibly knowledgeable without the off-putting smugness that some boomers have when they know something you don't.
