Actually, I think variations of the canoe are used south of here, around, all the way to Jakarta and the like.
Last Christmas, I was too beat after work to go anywhere. Watched a lot of Golden Kamuy. You'd be surprised how many plants, animals, and techniques are shared around the rim.
