I agree with pretty much everything you said but that last bit just got me real perplexed like. Bringing a knife isn't being a tacticool gearfag, it's being not-stupid. Humans have depended on knives for survival since, well, before we even evolved.
I'm having a real hard time thinking of a more versatile piece of equipment than a knife but I'd love for someone to prove me wrong.
