It does attract a lot of butterflies, but if it were me I would consider replacing it with lilac (Syringa vulgaris) which is similar, naturalised but above all not aggressive.
Have you thought about woodland flowers in the shade of your fences? Bluebells, Ramsons (edible), Wild Garlic (edible) and Wood Anenome are all pretty nice looking, and thrive in shade. Pic related was taken under a dense beech canopy and the wood anenomes were still performing nicely.
