>>527915Switch over? I'd say "no." Spinning reels and baitcasters both have their place. But if you're not already using a baitcaster it's worth learning how to use one. Just expect some headaches as you learn. I definitely recommend getting a casting plug (pic related) and practising in your yard or wherever you can find some open space. You don't want to start winging expensive lures out into the water only to have a backlash/"bird's nest". Best cast: you waste time peeling line and when you finally reel up you manage not to have an grass, algae or whatever stuck to your lure. Worst case: you end up with an irretrievable snag or a fish snatches your lure and breaks your line because the spool is backlashed.
Of course once you learn how to use one you'll probably be quite pleased. They can't replace spinning setups for finesse fishing but when it comes to hauling crankbaits, launching spinner/buzzbaits to cover large flats, ripping fish from cover on worms/jigs... they can do what the more finesse-oriented setups can not.
