Food shouldn't be judged on calories alone, if that were the case noone would eat vegetables. You can get calories anywhere, what are harder to get is essential nutrients, which many species of mushroom happen to be insanely rich in.
If you are really too scared to forage, then you can always grow mushrooms with 100% certainty of species.
