I don't think you guys are understanding how you live in Alaska. You don't grow your food, you only grew herbs and supplemental food. The main food source is fish in the summer and moose in the winter. You also shoot ptarmigan, rabbits and a bunch of other stuff too vary your meats. Basically it goes like this: catch 50 large fish in a salmon run, jar some/smoke some, eat some, and then shoot a moose or bear when it starts to get cold enough to store meat in a shack. You use a small garden to provide seasoning and the occasional pumpkin or melon or cabbage. Thus, the quality of the dirt is not an issue. It also means you do not have to buy as much land since hunting requires no land(you can hunt in state land and a lot of native land). Alaska also has very strong bush infrastructure. There are many regional hubs and there are plenty of pilots willing to drop off supplies anywhere in the state. The soil is poor in some areas, but those same areas get a ton of sunlight (I've seen 1000 pumpkins here because of that).
This state really is the best state for a colony of autists hiding in the woods.
