>>1992152Long story short, I found a way to tidy my life's textiles with a merino base of 6 items. The secondary benefits were adopting dryer balls and cedar sachets, using ratty old cottons for rags, weekly load reduced to the lightest cycles of socks and linens, replace all laundry chemicals with a mini squirt of Dr. Bronner's, replace deodorant with baby powder, replace cotton towels with linen, get rid of an armful of clothes (many graphic T's permanently ruined by old deodorant grease).
This project started as a way to do less laundry, and to have at least a proper /out/ base layer in case the project failed. I wanted to stop putting a set of once-worn shirt/underwear/socks in the laundry bag each day because it's all the same: black.
Beyond the merino base, there's a mix of fashion and function. I don't think it's that binary. For example a cycling jersey, while brightly colored, would keep sweat and sun off my back during bike commutes, summer hikes, sports, etc. I'm also mending a charcoal sweater that's a fancy indoors item but it's intended to replace my current 12+ year-old daily sweater of black polyester. The polyester will be relegated to /out/ use along with the milsurp padded sweater.
Shirts like pic related are minimum $200 new, 370 gsm all wool. I imagine your pic with the deep hoodie pocket and hood would be similarly priced, but I've not seen either at any thrift stores. Would be good to have either a shirt or a hoodie/shell at some point later on. The difference among dress shirt, casual shirt, outdoor shirt, light waterproof shell, mid-layer gets blurred because a a quality stylish garment (not fashionable) can by definition be worn in almost any situation.
