You can do work for stay at the huts as a thru hiker. Entitled bitches would complain about sweeping for an hour or organizing a fridge, but I ate like a king in the whites. Short ribs, pizza, roast turkey, fresh bread, pancakes, bacon, eggs (pic related). They'll likely you give you a bowl of soup for nothing, but always ask if they need a hand. The kroos at the huts are all too familiar with entitled thru hikers. They want you to eat their extra food, so they do not have to pack it out, but be grateful because they carried it there in the first place.
Met some crazy, unstable folks in Bland. I had taken a nap by the top of this waterfall there, I woke up and this drunk lady's first words were "I'm going to throw you over that fucking waterfall."
Also, if you're planning to do it like you say, do it as soon as you fucking can.
