I don't trust the magnesium ones too much anymore, the smallest breeze and the stuff flies all over the place. With ones like this you just need to find some tinder, which is easy once you know how many things can be used as such (or bring your own), and then strike it 2-3 times.
Mine holds up to 10.000 strikes? So I highly doubt I will ever need to buy a new one.
As a backup I usually bring some waterproof matches since you don't only want to rely on one fire source.
