A good 80% of my gear is one of these four colors. I go /out/ in part to avoid people. Bright colors and (ironically) camo attract attention I don't want. If someone spots your camp through the trees, they might want to come say hi. If a hiker passes you and sees you wearing camo/tacticool black, I guarantee they're going to remember you and wonder what you're doing. When I'm /out/ I want to be forgotten after a smile and a nod or better, never seen in the first place. But I'm not fucking autistic - I still carry quality, high-performance modern equipment and in safety-critical situations like rafting I wear bright colors.
