>>1757504Depends which way you go. Tuckerman from Pinkham notch is a good day hike and not simple. In nice weather it's strenuous and spectacular, but totally doable as a dayhike. If you start on the other side by Mt. Madison (highly recommend) it's a 2 day hike. Airline trail to King Ravine is unbelievable, the last scramble up to Madison Hut is a killer though, you're on all 4's going up the scree and rockface for about an hour. I did it in good weather but the sun was setting and wind setting in so it got a little unnerving. Spent the night at Madison and then continued up Adams (fucking spectacular summit - exactly like Washington but no people in sight, no trail, you have to follow the cairns through the fog). Around the Great Gulf - FUCKING spectacular, and finally a long slog up the jewell trail to Washington. At that stage you can catch the coach or cog down for a pickup, or continue down to Pinkham or over to Lakes of the Clouds and wherever.
Elevation sickness is not a thing, generally speaking substantial or deadly falls aren't a high risk (in some spots in King Ravine and Gulf it is but you'd have to be fuckwit). The only killer on Washington is the weather. The rain will freeze you to death on a summer day. Hot blue skies at the base have no correlation to what's happening up on Washington and Adams, it's a totally different weather system. You can find 10ft visibility on the mountain when there isn't a cloud in the sky at the base. You're way too far away from help if a bad weather rolls in so be prepared. You'll pass many crosses and memorial cairns along the way.
