>>2144160If time was no issue I would take a fence post auger and put in as many holes as I could, fill half of them with sand and half with organics, then go through and till as deep as I could to incorporate. Then I would plant daikon and wheat or rye and let it sit unused as a garden for a couple seasons just planting that (and maybe an N fixer as well) as they break up the soil and incorporate their organics as they die off. In practice what I normally do when I'm starting a new plot is to burn it down with glyphosate in the late summer, cover it in manure till spring then till it up to incorporate. That spring I put in pic related cut with maybe 5% each of corn, BOSS, and more peas. It's not the cheapest or the best option, but it's super convenient to just go to the store and buy rather than trying to make my own better blend I would imagine many food plot blends are similar, just remember the big thing you are looking for is daikon radish and either wheat or rye. Let it grow for a season to smother out anything that wants to come up then let the chickens on it in the fall and till under when they are done. Garden is good enough to plant in the next year and I just keep adding sand/manure when I till until it's where I want it. Then I add manure every other or every third year depending since I've had problems with some plants getting to much nitrogen. Or you can take the lazy rout and just put a layer of hay bales over the top and let them rot down but that doesn't do much to adress the underlying problem of the clay.
