>>2501412>>2501425I'm not saying to cut down every last tree, especially not old growth (at that point it is better to leave it as a forest). But the truth is that most forests today are second growth ecological deserts with little to no undergrowth aside from a couple ferns. It's just a bunch of crowded fast growing trees less than 30 years old without any of the deadfall and rotting wood that supports biodiversity.
It's impossible to create an old growth forest by planting trees, it's much easier to plant a grassland and let it naturally evolve into woodlands over time. But of course that takes time and in today's zoom zoom tik tok world it's easier to plant a bunch of saplings in a grid and look like you did something.
