Haven't read his book, but have read a biography and how he isn't the typical outdoorsy type is really inspiring to me.. He was a clerk who romanticized the idea of exploring the ocean and had to use racing boats to do so since the idea of just sailing around for pleasure wasn't really a scene. Made a fool of himself at the start but in the end was noted for being a skilled sailor.
