I've also encountered a black rattlesnake that was very well hidden and I almost stepped on him (sneaky lil bastard in the pic, after he slithered off the trail when I startled him). I've encountered two small black bears before which never bothers me, and one mountain lion who was kind of far away from me. The lightning was by far the most terrifying for me, more so than any animal I've encountered.
