Just because I am not afraid doesn't mean I am not smart about it. You must always respect wildlife that are in a higher trophic level than you or are much bigger than you!
If I was in brown bear country I'd carry bear spray and an air horn (spray is more effective at deterrence than guns and this is not up for debate, read the literature). The air horn is for obvious reasons, scare away the bear before it has a chance to even think about charging.
The only animals I can honestly say make me sweat when I think about encountering them are big predatory cats. They're strong, quick, and silent.
