>>464804I use a shoulder bag as a haversack in conjunction with my daypack, just a Serbian Surplus bag I picked up for $20. Held up well for me. I keep my steel bottle, the pot it nests in, my folding saw, my work gloves, hank of jute twine, a box with assorted fire making supplies (a candle, lighter, matches, some tinder, etc) and little bit of medical items and duct tape. I also have a little sack that I hang from my belt that I carry an Opinel, a ferro rod, a piece of fatwood, and maybe a compass (if I feel like being a too), inside of, but I also store it in the Serbian bag from time to time.
Everything else I leave in my daypack, which I set down once I reach where I'm setting up camp. Carrying the haversack allows me to carry a few items with me while I search for wood, stones, or methamphetamines for the the camp, and to carry it in the bag.
