When I’m /out/ and about in the woods, the knife I usually have on me is my modified Morakniv Basic 511. Cheap enough that I don’t have to worry about breaking it, and sharp as a razor. I wrapped 3 waterproof matches and a striker on the outside of the sheath with electrical tape and paracord, and have a rubber band to help keep the knife secure. For the knife, I forced a patina (this knife goes through a lot so I thought I’d give it some extra protection), sharpened it quite a few times, and used a bastard file to square off the spine at 90 degrees for a ferro rod.
