>>1804869So what makes Spyderco Budget? Yes they, unlike BM, offers good budget knives, but they also offer plenty of knives in the $100, $200, $300, and some $400 range.
I don’t understand where this “Spyderco is a cheap company” really started, but I think it’s in part because they actually have a budget line, and because their popular knives tend to be like $20-$50 cheaper then the equivalent BM. And it’s not because they are worse, spoiler alert Spyderco generally beats BM in F&F and QC at a given price range, while also generally having better cutting geometry, and they are one of the best production companies at any price range when it comes to the quality of their HT.
Do I have a bias toward Basedderco? No, I have many knives from other companies that I also really enjoy to carry and use and recommend... it’s more of a bias against BM rooted in I’ve had so much first hand experience with them being mostly “meh” and actually crappy in a few cases.
And it’s not to say Spyderco, Cold Steel, ZT, Kershaw, Ontario, Boker, ect... are not with out their controversies and flaws, it’s just BM has had a lot of those and does not seem to care much about actually addressing and fixing some of them. Why should they? Their primary market is the Military and Law Enforcement, clients who are not as critical about the fine details as long as it works, and don’t see it as over priced because a BM costs what a BM costs.
