One night when I was hiking through a swamp in a ~1000-acre nature reserve I had my lights off for a long time, trying to make it by moonlight but it was quite dark and going through some really thick pine forest where it was almost pitch black there was this sudden ear piercing hiss right in my face, like 5ft in front of me. Couldn't see a damn thing and when I got my light on nothing was there. I'm guessing it was probably a deer because they hiss like cunts when you trespass in their territory but I'll never know. Nek day there was a mountain lion spotted along the same road as the reserve. Very rare in New England but it freaked me right the fuck out.
