Facebook groups are a godsend for identification. Obviously there are more retards than experts but you don't just blindly follow people's suggestions and they'll help a lot.
It's easier to get into beginning foraging with a few specific targets in mind. I'm a noob about plants, but for mushrooms there are a bunch of easily identifiable ones in North America perfect for beginners that you should look into. As far as I know BC should have pretty much the same edible mushrooms as the American PNW

Pic related it's a lobster mushroom, extremely easy to identify. Fun fact lobsters aren't technically mushrooms but a fungus that grows on mushrooms that already exist, turning them into itself. The texture is amazing
