1) I was lucky enough to know a few of my dad's uncles that did it, he watched an learned; I watched and learned. --- I would begin with snaring rabbit and learning to skin, clean, and harvest their meat.
2) It depends on the population of the animals you plan on trapping, within the given area. Some years are bad for us, some are amazing. You can get away with setting up like 5-10 Conibear traps for marten, for rabbit... look for their trails in the winter, and go nuts (assuming you plan on eating them).
3) Learn and practice setting up snares. Learn general bushcraft stuff and survival. ALWAYS be careful with Conibear traps, I know some people who let themselves get broken fingers from them, or they got stuck to a tree for a period of time trying to get it to open and release themselves.
