OP here, literally posting from the Supai village. pretty spectacular place, in my top 10 . more expensive than most of the other places in my top 10 I guess. but anywhere international or that requires a flight (like kauai, another place in my top 10) is going to be more expensive by default
anyway, the blue of the water is actually really striking, my photos don't even do it justice. the cliffs aren't as red as in many photos but still the contrast between the blue water, the green trees, and the reddish cliffs is impressive.
also geography kind of works against photos here, the falls fall northward, which means especially so early in the year the sun being to the south means the falls and cliff face are always in shadow, and most of the pool is as well. the colors, especially the blue water, pop even more in the sun. also overcast weather doesn't help, I think. haven't really seen the main falls in the sun, maybe they're less shaded than I think.
as for trash, not as bad as feared, worst was on the trail between the village and the trailhead, where mules pack out all the villages trash and they often drop things. I did see someone on clean up duty but either he doesn't do a thorough job or it just gets kind of bad quickly.
crowds weren't bad either, camping area is huge so it doesn't feel crowded. I've had all the falls to myself at times for significant time
