The eastern side of the Mazatzals is pretty nice, the problem is that it's hard to find land for sale up in them now (the old cabins were built a long time ago). The closest area with land available for purchase to the Mazatzals is probably the area southwest of Payson. Although the area northwest of Payson is a little bit nicer climate-wise, Pine and Strawberry, which are closer to the Rim than the Mazatzals. Christopher Creek is also nice, but farther east and just below the Rim.
